Classic Car Gallery at the 2007 Portland International Auto Show

A new feature of the 2007 Portland International Auto Show was a gallery of classic cars from the 1930s to the 1950s. These cars were displayed by the Road Angels Hot Rod Club of Portland.

1940 Nash LaFayette Convertible Coupe

1940 Nash LaFayette Convertible Coupe at the 2004 Clatskanie Heritage Days Car Show

The LaFayette Motors Corporation was founded in 1920 but was taken over by Nash and discontinued after 1924. Nash brought back the LaFayette marque in 1934 as a low-priced brand, but in 1937 the LaFayette became a low-priced Nash model with the same styling as the larger, more expensive Nash Ambassadors, just on a shorter wheelbase, and powered by a 99-horsepower 234.8-cubic-inch inline 6-cylinder engine. 1940 would be the last year for the Nash LaFayette, as it would be replaced in 1941 with the all-new unibody Nash Ambassador 600. This 1940 Nash LaFayette Convertible Coupe was photographed at the 2004 Clatskanie Heritage Days Car Show.

1940 Packard One-Ten Club Coupe

Responding to the Great Depression, luxury automaker Packard introduced a line of cars powered by six-cylinder engines in 1937, alongside its eight-cylinder powered standard One-Twenty line. Initially called simply the Packard Six, the smaller Packard line was renamed Packard One-Ten in 1940. The Packard One-Ten series had a 122-inch wheelbase, as opposed to the Packard One-Twenty line's 127-inch wheelbase, and was powered by a 245-cubic-inch six-cylinder version of Packard's L-head in-line engine that was rated at 100-horsepower, not much less than the One-Twenty's 120-horsepower 282-cubic-inch eight-cylinder engine. Packard built 62,300 One-Tens and 28,138 One-Twenties for 1940. The One-Ten line was expanded in 1941, but in 1942 the Packard One-Ten went back to being the Packard Six before World War II halted civilian Packard production. This 1940 Packard One-Ten Club Coupe was photographed in the Days in the Park parade in Rainier, Oregon, on July 8, 2000.

1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible

1940 was Ford's last year for the design it introduced in 1937, and the last year for the 136 cubic-inch V8 as the base engine. Better remembered was the 221 cubic-inch flathead V8 of the Deluxe, which produced 85 horsepower and would continue to be offered. 1940 Fords, like this 1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible pictured at the Towe Ford Museum (now the California Automobile Museum) in Sacramento, California, in March 1992, seem to be the favorites among collectors out of the 1937-1940 model years, with a high, flat-topped hood and wide-set sealed-beam headlights.
