Dating back to 2001, and updated in 2006, the sleek, 288-horsepower, 4.3-liter V8-powered 2007 Lexus SC430 coupe, with its retractable aluminum-alloy hardtop that retracts in 25 seconds, is still an impressive luxury convertible. With its six-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission it could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 149 miles per hour. It was displayed at the 2007 Portland International Auto Show at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

The flagship of the Lexus brand had been given a major redesign for 2007, becoming the LS460, and gaining a long-wheelbase version, the LS460L, which is the first Lexus long-wheelbase model. Both versions are powered by a 380-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 engine with the world's first eight-speed automatic transmission. It was displayed at the 2007 Portland International Auto Show at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

2006 Lexus IS350

More interesting than the 2006 GS450h hybrid from Lexus was the new 2006 IS350. Designed to take on the BMW 3-Series, the double overhead cam V6-powered Lexus IS Series was available as the IS250, with a 204-horsepower 2.5-liter engine, or as the IS350 shown here, with a 306-horsepower 3.5-liter engine. They were available as rear or all-wheel drive, and of course featured all the options one would expect from a Lexus.

2006 Lexus GS450h

The GS450h was billed by Lexus as the "World's First Luxury Hybrid Performance Sedan." The hybrid powertrain paired a 3.5-liter aluminum V6 gasoline engine with a high-output electric motor to produce 350 horsepower. Performance was good: 0-60 in 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 131 miles per hour. Fuel economy however (25 city, 28 highway) didn't seem to be much of an improvement over a standard Lexus GS350. It seems Lexus decided to use the hybrid powertrain to boost performance, instead of fuel economy.
