At the 2006 Portland International Auto Show, Toyota showed a sneak-peek of their new retro-styled SUV, the FJ Cruiser. The styling recalls the early FJ-series Land Cruisers of the 1960s and 70s, which themselves were descended from the 1951 BJ-series, but since the Land Cruiser name is still in use, Toyota christened this new model with a name similar to that of Chrysler's retro compact.
The FJ Cruiser, scheduled for release in March 2006, was powered by a 239-horsepower 4.0 liter V6 with a 5-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive or an available 6-speed manual overdrive transmission, and vehicle stability control, with traction control and anti-lock brakes.
