Racing Gallery at the 2007 Portland International Auto Show

One of the special features of the 2007 Portland International Auto Show at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon, was a road racing gallery put together by the Oregon Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).

Nick Fluge's 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a top speed of 198 miles per hour and can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds.

John Zupan's Porsche 914/6 is a six cylinder version of Porsche's normally 4-cylinder-powered 914 that was built between 1969 and 1972.

Monte Shelton's 1986 Porsche 962 LeMans Longtail was a Le Mans and International racing car. It is powered by a 650-horsepower 3.2-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine and has a top speed of 226 miles per hour.

2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The fastest and most powerful production vehicle ever produced by General Motors at the time, the new Corvette Z06 challenged the exotic sports cars of the world with the 505-horsepower LS7 7.0 liter V8, a 0-60 time of less than 4 seconds and a top speed of nearly 200 miles per hour, all at a bargain price: starting at $65,000.

For those on a tighter budget, the standard Corvette, with only a 400 horsepower 6.0 liter V8, started at about $20,000 less.

1997 Chevrolet Corvette

The fifth generation of the Chevrolet Corvette was new in 1997, which was big news as the previous generation dated back to 1984. The new Corvette was slightly wider and taller, and had a significantly longer wheelbase that added to the Corvette's stability. The old quad-cam V8 was replaced by a new aluminum-alloy LS1 small block V8 that produced 345 horsepower with a traditional overhead-vale pushrod design thanks to cylinder heads redesigned to maximize airflow, a composite induction system, advanced engine management and electronic fuel injection. For the first time, the Corvette featured a rear-mounted transaxle and was available with a standard four-speed automatic transmission or an optional six-speed manual. The Corvette could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 miles per hour. Additional features included antilock brakes, traction control, a tire pressure monitor and run-flat tires. A convertible would debut six months after the coupe.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The new 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is the most powerful production Corvette ever offered by General Motors. It also features lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is powered by a supercharged 638-horsepower LS9 V8 with a 6-speed manual transmission and has a top speed of 205 miles per hour. The base price of the Corvette ZR1 is $102,450.

Standard equipment includes carbon fiber fenders, floor panels and hood, visible carbon fiber roof, roof bow, splitter and rockers, action handling, traction control, 4-wheel independent suspension, 6-piston fronts and 4-piston rear cross drilled Brembo ceramic antilock disc brakes, 19" front and 20" rear aluminum wheels, run-flat tires, keyless access with push button start, theft deterrent system and alarm, xenon high intensity discharge headlights, head-up display, power heated outside mirrors, leather seating surfaces, XM satellite radio and steering wheel radio controls.

This example with Premium Equipment Group including DVD Navigation, Bose 7-Speaker Premium Sound, power telescoping steering wheel, heated seats, side impact airbags, and custom leather-wrapped interior costs $115,000.

The Corvette ZR1 delivers fuel economy of 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.

2009 Callaway Corvette

The 2009 Callaway Corvette is available as either a coupe or convertible and with either a manual or automatic transmission. The supercharged V8 engine produces 580 horsepower and 510 foot-pounds of torque.

Standard equipment includes a polished CS2000 Roots supercharger with intercooler, an electronic fuel system control with high volume injectors, a Callaway Honker high flow intake system, stainless steel exhaust, body-color injector covers, a C16 hood with supercharged emblems, embroidered floor mats, a dash plaque and a 3 year/36,000 mile powertrain warranty.

Available options include exhaust tip slats, multi-pro suspension, C-Mg wheel & tire package, Deutschleder interior package, short-throw shifter, LeMans brake packages, SportSeat package and Car Cover.
